Here is Psylocke, finally. Had fun trying out inks.

Good news, I have finished the pencils for issue 1 for

The Indifference Engine

and the colouring is almost finished, done by the unbelievably talented Mel Cook.
A 15 page preview will be uploaded for all to see very soon.

Awesome script written by Cy.
Lettering by Nic Wilkinson, who happens to be the Creative Director at Insomnia Publications.

Which leads me to announce that Insomnia will now be producing material for the Digital Comics Store on the PlayStation®Network.
For all the info, read the post here.

Robs Ode to Ciaran Finishegan.

Well here is my response to c's request, Magneto.
Which as you can see is not Magneto, but John Horas from Warren Ellis's Black Summer which is amazing.
It did start out as a Magneto pic, but developed passed that to be what it is, what it was and what it will be.What?
For Cormac i want The Plutonian, from Irredeemable. Only got the first 3 issues and think it rocks.

Finally the reason for the title.
Ciaran has left us. As i write this through tears of joy,, or sorrow, I want to say that we will miss his timing and challenge choices. but i wont miss the fact that he is the only person I have ever met that I could smell through the internet.
You will be missed, and I cant wait for the odd guest appearance.
Combibo meus gallo ciaran

Sketch Paddys will continue as before but a renewed purpose. we rise from this as a Phoenix from the ashes, and we will be launching the largest artist battle in the history of mankind. "Mankind." That word should have new meaning for all of us. We can't be consumed by our petty differences anymore. We will be united in our common interests. Perhaps it's fate that today is the 13th of September, and we will once again be drawing for our freedom... Not from tyranny, oppression, or persecution... but from annihilation. We are drawing for our right to live. To exist. And should we draw this day, Sketch Paddys will no longer be known as an Irish Weekly SketchBlog, but as the blog the world declared in one voice: "We will not go quietly into the night!" We will not vanish without a fight! We're going to live on! We're going to survive! Today we celebrate our Sketch Paddys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wee Beasties

I'm sorry to say this will be my last post for a while. I'll be busy on some other stuff over the next few months, so to be fair, rather than slow the lads down I'm going to step back and let them at it. Hopefully I can drop by every so often with a sketch. Otherwise, we get to sit back and enjoy Rob and Cormac battle it out. The best is yet to come with these lads and I'm looking forward to watching their progression. It won't be long now 'till we can pick something off the stands with their names on it.

I'll leave you with some wee beasties. Slán

( :) almost forgot - last challenge - Magneto if you please Rob!)

Everybody be Cool, you be Cool.

Did they look like psychos? They were fuckin'
vampires. Psychos don't explode when sunlight
hits'em, I don't care how crazy they are.

Awesome movie, Ciarán The Silver Surfer for
Monday please.

Borja's Bats

Our special guest this week is animator and artist extraordinaire Francisco de Borja E. G.

Borja was the art director on the recent CBBC cartoon Funky Fables and, as you can see, is possessed of a wicked (disturbing?) sense of humour.

Thanks Borja (I think). Viaje seguro.

Robert, your next mission, should you choose to accept it, is that tragic but cool Batman villain, Mr. Freeze.

Cormacs Astonishing Wolf-Man

I've only read the 1st issue of this series,
but the character appeared in Invincible
which is good enough for me.

Ciarán is giving up his next post for some sort
guest star, so watch this space....

Monday: Ned Kelly - 9000

Here's a weird robot I drew a long time ago (leaving cert maybe). He's a defective robot, number 9000, that develops a personality and goes on the run. 9000... 9K... NK... Ned Kelly... Brilliant!

Ok, Carey - how about the Juggernaut for Wednesday?

Friday, July 31, 2009

Cormacs Cosmos

One of the lesser know Transformers but a favorite of mine,
(Maybe because I own the G1 toy). Ciarán lets get a mechanized
theme going so for Monday something mechanized.

Wednesday, July 29, 2009

Rough work from me this week as i didnt have time to finish this.
I may ink it and upload it to my blog if i have time during the week.
I want Cormac to draw a Transformer.
PEACE.

Monday: Feed me... Brains!

'Nother quick one. Zombie's are great because you can combine them with anything. Like, alien-zombie or ninja-zombie or even treble things up, like samurai-robot-zombie. And the reasons for being a zombie can be wide-ranging as well. Like, mad scientist, "rage virus", necromancer, indigestion, the list goes on. This one here's just a regular zombie, awoken by a killer beat and an irresistible bass line.

On that 'note', Rob - a musician of your choice!

Grew worse on Friday

Solomon Grundy,
Ciarán gets the next step
down in the undead scale A Zombie.

Wednesday, July 22, 2009

Rob Dracula

Here is a quickie, Dracula.
I will keep the undead theme and ask Cormac to draw
Solomon Grundy.

Monday, July 20, 2009

Monday: Shadrac

I only have time for a doodle this week. Check out my anatomy!

Rob, I'm thinking Dracula for Wednesday. Or if you want to keep it in comics, Morbius.

In other news, thanks to the guys over at The Comic Cast for throwing the party on Friday. It was cool chatting to some of the comics crowd. That's good. People need to be entertained, need the distraction. I wish somebody'd do something to block out the voices in my head, the voices that scream over and over. Why do they come to me to die? Why do they come to me to die?
Name that movie.

Friday, July 17, 2009

Cormacs Kaine

As horrific as the Clone Saga was, it was happening
as I was getting into Comics, so I really look back at
some of the characters quite fondly.
So Ciarán for Monday you have a choice between
Rhino or Shadrac
All this retro Spiderman business kinda makes me
feel bad for ripping Ciaráns Amazing Spiderman#400.

Wednesday, July 15, 2009

Robs Venom

Here is Eddie Brock valmorphicationanizing into venom.
I want to get Cormac to draw,,,,,,,,,,
Kaine.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaine
This dude was badass and i love the design.

Monday: Red Rocket 7

I won't get the inks finished tonight so for those of you who check the blog in the morning (Iknow who you are) and for those who like continuity (you know who you are) here is Mike Allred's Red Rocket 7.

I'll throw the final version up on Monday n
ight when its finished. I'm trying to work on my process for bringing an image from the concept stage in my head (that's where baby concepts come from) to finished inks on paper (that's where grown-up concepts live), with bells and whistles, in as fast a time as possible. It's slow going since a Sunday night is really the only time I get to try this stuff out, but I'm sure I'll figure something out eventually.

(finished image + bells + whistles) - (time) = Secret Comic Book Artist Process

Eric Canete (who blew me away when I first saw his art on Cybernary 2.0) has a great routine going over on his blog where he'll do his best in 90 minutes and call it a day after that (of course a background in animation helps. You animators ).

Almost forgot. We're gonna go with a 'Spiderman Villains' theme this week. Carey, if you please, can you get the ball rolling with Venom for no later that Wednesday morning :)

See you again soon.

... (time passes) ...

And here's the final version.

Sorry for the delay on this guys, I'm having internet problems at home at the moment.

This week I'm getting back to basics: putting the sketch back into SketchPaddys, if you will. Here's Batman.

I want Cormac to draw Ultimate Hawkeye.

Thursday, June 18, 2009

"Thundercats that Cheetra is dressed like a hoooo"

I thought it was about time I added a bit of colour to
my sketches and as you can see I'm a tad out of practice.
So Ciarán for Monday, keeping with the theme the Cowardly
Lion from The Wizard of Oz, if you please.

Wednesday, June 17, 2009

Robs Stink Panther

I decided to stick to the rules of sketch paddys, and draw the pink panther as challenged. Had to stick in Cormacs choice of Invincible, such a great character and comic.
I hope this will lead as an example for some. not looking at someone who cant follow rules, eh am I Ciaran, eh?
I want a theme for the next two challenges, since i have done Pink Panther, i will DEMAND that Cormac draw Cheetara, from Thunder Cats.
Cormac, i want you then to issue a challenge to suit this weeks theme for Ciaran, if you want.
